Adding to a list or note via Apple Watch

I go walking. When I am out if I see a bird I open a note and jot down what I have seen. When I see something else I add that to the note. By the end I can see all the birds I saw on my walk.

I use Alexa at home to add things to a shopping list.

As a new Apple Watch owner I wondered if I could talk to my watch and get Siri to do either of these two very similar jobs. I can’t seem to do so but it may be simply that I don’t know the commands to tell Siri.

Is it possible, please?

“Hey Siri, Remind me to xyz…”

And it will be added to the Reminder’s app.

“Hey Siri, Remind me when I get home to abc…”

”Hey Siri, Remind me at 10pm to watch the news”

You can also add reminders via the watch screen.

There is an app called “drafts”, and you can add notes to it, either via the watch screen or via Siri.

That seems to have a monthly fee for it. In which case I'd just go for opening my phone and typing in Notes for the number of times I do it.

I used Drafts when it was a one-time-only purchase, and it was great.

I think the idea of using Reminders has merit. You can have a list that's just birds. You don't have to set it to actually remind you of anything.

You can also send iMessage to yourself and later share those to Notes. Someone went to the trouble of creating a shortcut (which is mostly relevant for an Ultra 2) but, still worth looking at:

And, wow! I wish I could see all of those birds where I live.

Hi @BobHarris and @Ozzie1910 thanks both for your replies.

I can see a reminder would "remind" me to add something to a list - but that's not the same as actually adding it to a list. At home I use Alexa and ask her to e.g. "add oil to the shopping list" - so it just appears in the Alexa app shopping list when I open it. I can tick my shopping off as I go around the supermarket.

Specifically, this morning, this is the list I was making:

Birds

  • Jay
  • Buzzard
  • Whitethroat
  • Egret
  • Corn bunting
  • Swallow
  • Skylark
  • Stonechat
  • Dunnock
  • Great Tit
  • Cetti’s warbler
  • Goldfinch
  • Chaffinch
  • Chiff-chaff
  • Long tailed tit
  • Kestrel

Just a long list of "birds that I saw on my walk today". Those aren't reminders that I saw x y or z to add to a list, I've literally just opened the "Notes app" created a new note and started to type as I saw each bird. I figure it would be nice to just raise my wrist and talk.

@IdrisSeabright,

I didn't discard Reminders. It does indeed let me add a list of items, but it's not a list that I can cut/paste elsewhere to remind myself of what I saw on a given day.

I'll check out the iMessage idea too.

As for all those birds - it's taken me a while to get my eye in with some of them but I'm lucky that I live in the countryside near the sea so I get fields/foreshore/hedgerow/woodland. That lot was seen on an 11 mile walk (hence wanting an option that's very 'on the go' rather than stood in a hide with phone ready to type into).

I am quite envious. Happy birding!
