waze always in the background apple carplay

When Waze app is open on Apple CarPlay, it is always working in the background even when not used or there is no active route. This causes massive battery drainage and the only way to shut it down is to close the app on the phone (which sometimes doesn’t work).

any help is appreciated.

Waze crashes all the time after iOS 18.5 update on my iPhone 15 Pro I recently updated my iPhone 15 Pro to IOS18.5 and from that moment I started to have issues with the Waze app. Both in Car Play and using it directly in the phone the app crashes when setup for an address. Before the update to iOS 18.5 I never had Waze crash on me either on the iPhone or using CarPlay. To reproduce it, simply pick the icon for work or home from the Waze screen and watch the app crash. After you that when you open the app again it asks you if you want to resume the drive to the address you selected when it crashed. Since last Waze update, huge lag / delay of seconds when Waze is shown on CarPlay Since last Waze update, there is a huge lag / delay of a couple of seconds when Waze is shown on CarPlay. Before it worked fine. Anyone have the same issues? Are there any solutions?

Carplay side bar not responding Since ios 17.7 (now on ios 18), the side bar of Carplay doesn’t respond on touch. No reaction trying to select any of the three latest apps or the home button. The only way for me to switch apps is either by asking Siri to change apps or if I close Waze on the mobile. The latter will display the Carplay screen where all apps can be found and I can select any app there. I have restarted the infotainment (it has the latest update) and the phone. I have also disconnected the phone from Carplay and reconnected without changed behavior. I have only read a few people reporting this online, so I’m wondering if it’s a known bug? There are no other issues with the phone or the infotainment system.

This does look to be Waze app issue you should report to the app developer. How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
