MacBook Pro (M2 Pro) external (HDMI) Monitor refresh rate "only" 85 Hz

Hello everyone,

I have a question: I can't seem to get the refresh rate setting of my external monitor above 85 Hz. It (the monitor) is capable of a refesh rate of 144 Hz at a resolution of 3440 x 1440.

I'm connecting the monitor using a 48 Gbps certified "Ultra High Speed" HDMI2.1 to the HDMI port of the M2 Pro MacBook Pro. But the max refresh rate settig that is visible is 85 Hz. I tried a power cycle of my monitor without success. I used to have the monitor connected using a cable that was unable to handle the high data throughput, but even with the new cable, nothing changes.

Although 85 Hz is more than enough I would like to use my monitor at it's full potential. Any tips?

that appears to be the top speed cable.

Your M2 Mac with PRO processor appears to be capable of 4K at 240 Hz.

you need to affirm that NO adapters, converters or docks are being used, just straight HDMI-HDMI connection

Then the only item remaining that could be reducing available refresh rates is 'internal settings inside the display' itself. "On-screen display" settings.

for 8 bits/color display:

HDMI 1.4 supports 4K at 30 Hz.

HDMI 2.0 supports 4K at 60 Hz.

HDMI 2.1 supports 4K at 240 Hz.

ONE item that could limit refresh rate:

if you have set your display (and your Mac) for 10 bits/color, your maximum refresh rate would be somewhat lower. 120 Hz refresh would be beyond what your Mac can support at 10 bits/color.
