Why won't the back of my AirTag turn for battery replacement?
I cannot replace the battery because the back of the AirTag won't turn.

Just to be sure, check out the following to make sure that you are using the correct technique to replace the AirTag's battery.
If that still didn't help, then it may be possible that the current battery is swollen. If that is the case, then it would be near impossible to push down & rotate the back cover. However, you can use something like latex or medical-type gloves to increase the amount of traction you can exert during the removal process.
