Apple wallet sending verification code to wrong number

For those that are having an issue with verification through the Apple wallet after changing your number and updating your bank, I found that going through my banks app and selecting manage cards and selecting add to Apple wallet worked only after deleting the card from the wallet and going through the app FIRST otherwise if you add the card first it’ll still prompt that text to the old number. So when you want to add your card that you know you can’t verify because the phone connected, Go to Bank App> Manage Bank Card>>Add to Apple Wallet>> and it does the work for you. Hope that helps someone who comes across this looking for help.

Yeah no. At the point of exhaustion I had contacted the bank, Apple and even my carrier per apple support suggestion. It seemed to be some disconnect with the new number and the number that was being stored in the Apple wallet verification system. So weird it was doing it for multiple cards though I had other ways to verify a few it was one in particular that I couldn’t until I figured out ON MY OWN to just remove the card completely from the Apple wallet and go directly through the app instead of setting it up on Apple wallet first and requesting a verification. I came to the community tab to get some insight to this problem and it looked like quite a few people were having the same issue which is why I posted. It wasn’t a question where I needed help just stating what I did to resolve my own issue. Thanks though.

Yes, adding cards through the bank’s website or mobile app bypasses the additional verification step your bank may be requiring. But it doesn’t fix the root cause. Your bank has the wrong contact information for you.

>>Adding additional verification

A card issuer can decide whether a credit or debit card requires additional verification. Depending on what’s offered by the card issuer, the user may be able to choose between different options for additional verification, such as a text message, email, customer service call or a method in an approved third-party app to complete the verification. For text messages or email, the user selects from contact information the issuer has on file. A code is sent, which must be entered into Apple Wallet, Settings or the Apple Watch app. For customer service or verification using an app, the issuer performs their own communication process.<<

It’s great that you took the time to write your post and share you experience and method of resolving the issue.

I just wanted to add to your comment what the root cause of the issue is. Many community members have had this issue in the past. Fortunately a core group of volunteers are closely monitoring the community now and understand the issue and post regularly the solution for the last year or so.

Your advice of adding the card through the issuing banks mobile app or website is 100% accurate. Unfortunately, the majority of banks do not have the feature of adding cards through their mobile app (or website) enabled.

I agree, the support teams at most banks and even some of Apple Supports team members are not fully trained. But that doesn’t change the fact that only the bank can verify or add their card. The data the bank uses for verification is well documented in several sources and is readily available online. Unfortunately, it’s usually buried within lengthy articles.

Thanks again for your contribution and I hope you enjoy the remainder of the holiday. 😀
