macbook shuts down when I close the lid

When I close the lid and then open it back up, it appears powered off. So when I open the lid again it appears powered off. Only way to get power is a hard reboot - power down and then power back on

might be experiencing some issues with sleep mode. This could be due to software or hardware issues. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot:

  1. Reset SMC (System Management Controller): This can sometimes resolve power-related issues. To reset the SMC, shut down your MacBook, then press and hold the Shift, Control, Option, and Power buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds. After releasing the keys, turn on your MacBook again and see if the issue persists.
  2. Check Energy Saver settings: Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver and make sure that "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" and "Wake for network access" are unchecked. Also, try adjusting the settings for "Computer sleep" and "Display sleep" to see if that makes a difference.
  3. Check for software updates: Make sure your macOS is up to date by going to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update.
  4. Check for third-party software conflicts: Sometimes third-party software can interfere with sleep mode. Try booting your MacBook in Safe Mode (hold down the Shift key while booting) to see if the issue persists. If not, it might be caused by a third-party app or driver.
