Can I delete an iCloud back up from my old phone after upgrading?

I recently upgraded from the 13 pro max to the 15 pro max. I keep getting a notification that iPhone can’t be backed up cause iCloud storage is full. I’ve noticed there’s iCloud back up that’s 7.5 gigs from the iPhone 13 Pro Max while my current iPhone has a 6.4. Can I delete the 7.5 backup? Will it do anything, like ruin my phone? Free space? Or just delete the phone entirely?

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 17

Deleting an iCloud Backup only deletes the backup from iCloud and frees up space there. It won't affect your old phone or your new phone. If you've already used the backup to setup your new phone and no longer need it, it can be deleted. You can do that from either phone or another Apple device by going to Settings > [username] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Backups > [old device name] > Delete Backup.
