Wireless keyboard/track pad not working after Ventura 13.6.7 update

Ventura 13.6.7 was recently installed and since then my wireless keyboard and trackpad and not working as they used to. Namely I can no longer scroll within a page or excel (2 examples) with my fingers in the middle of the trackpad. I have to manually manipulate (resize) a page to get the elevator bar to show up and then I can scroll up and down. Very inconvenient. Also if I plug the trackpad into the MAC it starts drawing a box on my home screen that won't go away. What's with this? The keyboard is hit or miss if it will work. Sometimes it only works if it is physically plugged in to the Mac sometimes not. I have rebooted a couple of times and I can not find any setting on trackpad that will fix any of these issues.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
