Why is it so hard to create an AppleID? Does Apple not want our business?
I have spent the better part of this Saturday trying to create an Apple ID. This should definitely NOT be this difficult. The number one issue and this is CRITICAL, is that when it fails to create the Apple ID, it just tells you "Apple ID can not be created at this time." That means you think, well, maybe there's a server issue. But no, it tells you this when there is an actual REASON it isn't creating it, but it's just choosing not to tell you that reason. As in, there's an actual problem with something in your information, but it's not telling you what the problem is. So this alone MUST BE FIXED by Apple because it just ANGERS YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS.
Apparently after attempting to create an AppleID from multiple ways that the company allows it to be created, and then finally trying to get online chat support, the reason that I wasn't able to create the account was that my email address was for some reason magically and most importantly NOT DISCLOSED TO ME blacklisted by their account creation server. What? Why not just say "The email address you are using to create the AppleID is barred from creating an account, please contact customer service." That alone would have saved me HOURS of frustration.
So after discussing with customer support on chat, I learned that the support person could "unblacklist" my email. Great. So then I tried creating an account again, after this was done. And that's when I got to the NEXT issue. Apparently, Apple can just decide to blacklist your phone number. For some unknown reason. And also not tell you that is the reason why you are unable to create an AppleID. Instead it just tells you "Unable to create an account at this time." But no matter how many times, on how many days, that you waste your time filling out that form, "at this time" really means "Never ever." Because their server has your number in it somewhere and has deemed it UNWORTHY of an AppleID.
And what can their customer service do about this problem? Apparenly nothing. You're just not getting an Apple ID, I guess. I was specifically told by their tech: "Apple doesn't have anything to do with phone number." and that I would have to "Contact your carrier." I have to change my phone number just to get an Apple ID? That's INSANE. Apple, seriously, if you want people to use your products, you need to make it possible to create AppleID's without jumping through a million hoops.
So I guess now I just won't be creating an Apple ID, which means I won't be buying Apps, buying Music. Buying phones. Buying tablets. Nothing I'm not giving Apple a cent, because you don't want my money. And yes, I have an AppleID for my phone. This was going to be an ID for my son, but now he's getting Android, I guess.
