Battery drain after Sonoma 14.5 update

I have a M2 MacBook Air 13 that I bought back in April. After I update the software to the latest Sonoma 14.5, I have noticed increased battery consumption in shorter time. I mainly use Safari for browsing web and watch movies/otts. Has anyone else faced the same problem??? Any solutions to this???

MacBook Air, macOS 14.5

I own two identical MacBooks Pro 16" M2, 16GB. One (A) has Monterey 12.5.1, and another one (B) has Sonoma 14.5.

Right after the software upgrade on computer B, simple browsing tasks started to kill my battery in about 3-4 hours. Meanwhile, I can spend the whole day working on computer A.

Comparing data in Activity Monitor on A and B shows that B consumes MUCH MORE energy on the same tasks. Writing this response in Firefox consumes '16.9' energy units while doing the same on computer B takes up to a '100' units. All small helpers and background utilities consume large amounts of energy as well.

Can't use my B computer with such a battery lifetime. Immediately noticeable after upgrade.

I don’t see anything particularly wrong here, other than a complete lack of available memory, and some very busy system processes.

The 8 GB memory isn’t nearly enough memory for the load. Accordingly, this Mac probably switches apps really slowly.

No backups is not good either, if the data here has any value.

Absent some better cause, I’d back up, re-install macOS, and migrate in from the backup.

There’s nothing that can be done about insufficient memory, short of replacement.

Please download and run (free) EtreCheck, and share the results to the clipboard. Then open a new reply here, and press the Additional Text button that looks like a printed page, and paste and post the hardware and software configuration report here. From that, we can get a little more detail about what is installed and what is running here.

I've noticed this too! and I don't know if it has to do with the update but my SD Card Reader is not working any more, i checked with a usb-c to card reader and the card works fine. It's really frustrating that this is happening because I use it all the time. Another thing i noticed is that sometimes CoreSync from Adobe starts draining a lot of battery which is weird

I found out what was the problem! My battery got drained overnight, but I always keep my external monitor plugged in via the usb c port in my macbook. So I removed is before I went to bed. And the next morning my macbook was just fine, same battery percentage as the evening before. This wasn’t a problem before, because I always keep it plugged in, but is fixed the problem. Hope this is helpful!
