My fiancé and I are on the family sharing but my phone said I didn’t have enough storage for the software update. However, my fiancé’s phone shows he has plenty of storage available. How is it that one phone is full but the other is not?

iCloud has nothing to do with the on phone amount of storage.
If you need free space on your phone, you will have to delete videos, pictures and applications off your phone to clear space.
