Messages frozen and crashes on iOS 17.5.1

does anyone have any updates on the issue with ios 17.5.1 causing apps to freeze and crash and not work. i’ve had an issue for a few days now with imessage, phone, facetime, notifications, some settings and even apple music and apple maps refusing to work

This is not related to eSIMM as I do not have one - and my iPad does not have mobile connection. The apps especially, reminders, calendar, numbers and some other fail - the screen just freezes. With a restart the apps work for some time and the issue returns. I have not seen this happening on my iPhone 11 that is a corporate device managed by my office IT team.

I wish this is resolved soon.

The current version of iOS is 17.5.1. Anything later than that is a beta version. By definition, beta versions are unfinished and have bugs. If you're already having issues, you certainly don't want to add more with beta software.

seems unlikely the carrier would be a reason but it’s the only difference I can see…

How?! That just shows me a blank white screen the same as when I click on messages or try to go into message options in settings.

Spent the majority of the day into Apple support which has only made the issue worse since following their advice and re-setting my settings and them avoiding my question as to when an update will be provided to resolve the issue.

Asvised Me that they are aware of it and looking into it and will send an update at some point when investigated. Great. In the meantime, cannot use messages at all now 😡

This issue just struck me as I’m on vacation, which is of course a time when the ability to send and receive text messages is extremely important! I can’t believe Apple doesn’t have a patch for an issue of this severity yet. My Messages app has been completely unusable for two days now. It also freezes Settings when I try to go there a lot of the time. I did manage to turn off Focus mode access, but the problem returned. It also appears that my SMS messages are no longer syncing to my iPad (not sure about my laptop since it’s at home). I can see notifications about messages I’m receiving, but can’t go into the app and view them. This is extremely frustrating, to the point where I might just buy an Android phone. I can’t go without my text messages indefinitely.

No one here would be able to answer that question. Discussion of beta software is not permitted in these forums. We will all just have to wait and see what iOS 18 brings.

Anyone know when Apple are actually going to resolve this? I just keep being told ‘we are aware and investigating’ and they refuse to acknowledge how this is a huge problem or when it will be resolved.

Keep getting me to try the various other temporary fixes mentioned here which unfortunately do not work for me.

Nothing has changed, I fail to understand that basis of IDS registration if all that changed was the update that apple released. 4 hours logged out...why 4 hours? We live in a cloud backed world were things update in seconds or mins. This doesnt make sense to me or even sounds relevant...its equivalent to turning it off and on again. Thank you, next.

Same issue on my wife’s phone but not mine. Both with 17.5.1 and both the same phone model.

Same issue here on two phone models:

• iPhone 11 Pro, 512GB
• iPhone 12 Pro, 512GB

Nothing seems to help, must be a bug introduced in iOS 17.5.1 as it used to work before.

Please get this fixed asap.

I am seeing this same behavior as well.

I experienced this on an iPhone 15 Pro, and then on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

My phone(14 pro max) is doing the same thing after updating!
