M1 2020 Macbook pro touchbar has stopped working

The touch bar is not responsive to touch and is black when I restart my laptop. When switching off and on the visibility in touch settings, the icons appear however it does not respond to touch or any input. I have updated my mac to the most recent update, tried using terminal and activity monitor to restart the TouchBar. When using activity monitor the touch bar will flash black and then the icons appear again however it is still not receptive to touch.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

If a Safeboot does not resolve the issue I would suspect a hardware issue...
