My iPhone X not support upi app

UPI apps no longer support the iPhone X. It appears that NPCI mandated that all UPI payment apps require iOS 17 or higher – perhaps because they wanted to take advantage of a new feature that would help them crack down on UPI payment fraud – so much that they were willing to cut off service to people with older phones.

You cannot update an iPhone X to iOS 17. If you want to continue to use UPI payment apps, you will need a newer phone.

You ARE NOT writing Apple here. This is a user to user only forum. Who you should be writing is your banking institution. Apple had NOTHING to do with their decision to not support phones which aren't capable of running iOS 17. Apple doesn't own them or have any control over which iOS versions they are willing to support. Complain to them. There is NOTHING Apple can do to help you. If you are hoping Apple will magically permit iPhones which can't run iOS 17 to be able to update to that version, it's simply NOT going to happen. Phones which can't support iOS 17 can't because they lack the hardware required to be updated that high.

NCPI (National Payment Corporation of India) – the developer of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) – is apparently the one calling the shots.

NCPI – Roles & Responsibilities

"TPAP is responsible to comply with all the requirements prescribed by PSP Bank and NPCI in relation to TPAP’s participation in UPI"

If I'm not mistaken, TPAP stands for Third Party App Provider. NCPI and the Banks say "Jump!", and the UPI app providers say "How high?" Then UPI app providers say "Jump!", and you say "How high?" If you refuse to jump (e.g., you insist on using an iPhone that is too old to update to iOS 17), the result is that you don't get to use UPI.

If you don't like it, complain to NCPI and the Banks.

But not yet whatsapp pay also blocked from iPhone X

A bit of Google searching turned up this: "WhatsApp Pay is available through Indian banks which support UPI."

If that is accurate, that explains why WhatsApp Pay is locking out your iPhone X. NPCI and the banks make the rules for the UPI payment system, and all UPI payment app vendors must follow those rules. If one of the rules says "No payments on any version of iOS lower than iOS 17", then you will not find any app that will allow you to make or receive UPI payments while running a version of iOS lower than 17. Not for long,

Any. app vendor that tried that stunt would find themselves locked out of the UPI payment system in short order. Bankers tend to be funny that way about locking out people who do not follow electronic payment system rules.

If you need to make or receive UPI payments on a phone, and the people who run the UPI system have decided to abandon your iPhone X, the logical consequence is that you must get a phone that they have not abandoned (yet). Either that or forget about making or receiving UPI payments on your phone.

Well next year, it's possible UPI may require an iPhone which can run iOS 18. We do know that iPhone XR will be compatible with iOS 18. So you'd be good for at least one year. But after 2025, I would be very surprised if iPhone XR gets any more major updates. We are NOT Apple on this user to user only forum, so we cannot tell you how long. And keep in mind it is NOT Apple who is requiring iOS 17 for UPI. It is the app developer who is requiring iOS 17, which has absolutely nothing to do with Apple. If you want to be prepared for future iOS updates to keep your UPI app running for more years, you should likely be looking at much newer, more modern iPhones.

There is nothing for Apple to do.

UPI is not owned or controlled by Apple.

UPI made the decision to not support older versions of iOS.

Also, this is a user to user support forum.

Apple is not here and doesn’t read or respond to any posts here, especially when it has nothing to do with them.

Stop wasting your time posting here and go bother UPI about their decision to stop providing you service.

It is not expected from a trusted company like Apple. Either they could not know the changes or they are forcing customers to buy new set with higher version. Both are not expected from Apple. I hope they will come out with some solution for the users of iPhone x or lower version. Actually I am unable to use G Pay now and facing acute difficulties. If I need to buy a set now, I shall not go for Apple, that is sure.

You do not seem to understand that the decision was made by UPI. Apple was not involved with this in any way.

The developers at UPI could have very easily chosen to continue to support iOS 16, but instead they chose to abandon support for your phone.

Your issue is with UPI.....not Apple.

It is UPI that is forcing you to buy a new phone if you want to run their apps.
