That OWC hub should support both the SSD and a display plugged in it's rear Thunderbolt/USB-C ports.

Move the USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter w/Cinema Display to the back of the OWC hub.

If the SSD is slower on the OWC hub, then plug the SSD directly into the port where the Cinema Display was.

What is on that Thunderbolt 4 cable in the M1 Mac mini's other Thunderbolt/USB-C port..?

If it is another Display? Then your best bet, is to replace the old Mini DisplayPort Cinema Display with a 4K HDMI display.

In the mean time, if you decide to test the HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable adapter that you linked above.

Then make sure that you can return it, if it does not work.

For reference, the Mi Mac mini only supports one on the Thunderbolt/USB-C port and one on the HDMI port.

At this point I see two solid options and a third option to try.

1) Stick with the current setup and live with slightly slower SSD speed.

2) Replace the old Mini DisplayPort Apple Cinema Display with a 4K HDMI display.

3) Try moving the Apple Cinema Display to the OWC hub and plug the SSD into the now free TB port.

What OWC Dock or Hub is that?

I pictured using what you had.

Move the USB-C to Mini DisplayPort w/Cinema Display to the OWC hub. Then plug the SSD directly into the port where the Cinema Display was.

I just notice something that does not look right.

If the black cable is the one coming from the Mac mini, then it is plugged into the wrong place.

The black Thunderbolt Cable from the Mac mini, needs to be plugged into the other side of the OWC Hub.
