Mac MIni M1 / HDMI to displayport options

I have a Mac Mini M1 2020 and an Apple Cinema Display. Ive been using this Amiroko USB-C to Displayport without any issues but id like to free up that usb-c port if i can. Will a Male-HDMI to Female Displayport adaptor work? something like this: Amazon Adaptor

Doesn't look hopefull...

It is important to note that this adapter functions as a passive adapter. While DisplayPort connectors are technically capable of passing an HDMI signal, it is crucial to understand that DisplayPort and HDMI signals are inherently different and not directly compatible with each other. Therefore, this adapter does not actively convert a DisplayPort signal into an HDMI signal.

For this adapter to work effectively, it requires a DisplayPort source device that is capable of producing and passing out an HDMI signal through the DisplayPort jack. This means that the device connected to the adapter must have the ability to output an HDMI signal using the DisplayPort interface. It is advisable to consult your device's specifications or user manual to ensure compatibility and functionality before using this adapter.

What is on that Thunderbolt 4 cable in the M1 Mac mini's other Thunderbolt/USB-C port..?

If it is another Display? Then your best bet, is to replace the old Mini DisplayPort Cinema Display with a 4K HDMI display.

In the mean time, if you decide to test the HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable adapter that you linked above.

Then make sure that you can return it, if it does not work.

For reference, the Mi Mac mini only supports one on the Thunderbolt/USB-C port and one on the HDMI port.

go to > Connect a display to Mac mini - Apple Support select the 2020 and 2021 versions.

  • For Mac mini with M1 chip, you can connect one external display up to 6K using a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port, and one external display up to 4K using the HDMI 2.0 port.
