Lightning iPad backup to USB-C MacBook Pro for future iPad

Hello. I have an iPad 6th Generation which I plan on selling to buy an iPad Air 4 or 5 for college. I will be selling the iPad on a third-party platform (eBay or Facebook marketplace). Due to this, I cannot transfer my iPad's data directly to the future iPad as I will only be in ownership of them one-at-a-time. Alternatively, I cannot backup my iPad to my MacBook Pro 2019 A1989 as it only has USB-C thunderbolt ports. I would look to investing in a USB-C to Lighting cable however this would only be useful for a very short amount of time as my future iPad would have USB-C and therefore deemed a waste of money. Please help
