How to Pause Maps on iPhone?

How might one pause navigation in the Maps app? Ending navigation is unhelpful. I am currently at the first of multiple stops on a route. Maps had the location incorrect. Once I actually arrived I seem to only have the options of “END ROUTE” or waste battery on phone and watch while repeatedly being tapped on the wrist to make a turn (from inside a building.) Ending the route would seem to entail reconstructing the entire rest of the route. At least that was my experience the last time I ended a route under similar circumstances in Maps. Perhaps the solution is to turn the iPhone off and hope that the route is preserved.
