Really annoying bug that is ruining Google Maps, it briefly shows labels and then HIDES them when they are ticked on (greyed out). Apple Maps is much better at the moment.
Using Safari 17.5 on macOS Monterey 12.7.5

I had to boot an iMac I still have running Monterey 12.7.5 & Safari 17.5. I don't see the same behavior. Maybe try launching Safari in Safe Mode by holding the shift key when opening Safari. Maybe it's an extension problem.
Thanks for testing! I created a new user, and tested Google Maps without signing in. Still the same thing. It’s weird because they display for half a second and then disappear.
You're welcome. Did you test with Safari in Safe Mode? If that doesn't work maybe someone else will have an idea.
You can force 2D Mode with this link, which solved the problem for me! 😉
