My older macbook air won't start.

My older macbook air won't start. The battery hasn't stayed charged for ages but it worked as long as I plugged it in. Now nothing happens when I press the power button.

In case it is still actually on but in a dormant or unresponsive state, try holding the power button in for about 20 seconds. Then release, and try to start normally.

What year and model is the laptop? If it is older than 7 years, Apple Store most likely won't offer to service it but an Apple Authorized Service Provider (a third party independent shop certified by Apple) often will service older Macs. The obvious next step would be to replace the battery, probably with an aftermarket unit if the original part is no longer available. I did this with a 2013 MacBook Air and the replacement battery has twice the capacity of the original one. When I did this several years ago the cost was about $100 including labor, but others have posted here that this is more like a $250 job nowadays. Note that you can purchase a new lower end new Mac Mini or MacBook Air for less than $1000, so depending on the age and configuration and condition of your laptop, it might be better to replace it.
