I'm having this same issue on my MacBook Air (2018), but maybe something works on your Mac that didn't work on mine. I'll list down every possible solution that I am aware of and hopefully something works:

  • Holding the power button for 10 seconds while reconnecting the power cable without letting go of the power button.

  • Changing your power cable (newer MagSafe-compatible Macs also support USB-C charging).

  • You could also try letting your laptop sit still for a few days without charging it—I've heard that fixed the issue for other people.

Maybe the problem is as simple as a dead battery, but if none of the above works then I recommend taking your laptop to an Apple-certified service provider as they will diagnose the problem for you.

Hope this helps!

P.S. I recommend getting an external hard drive (if you don't already have one) to make sure your important files are always backed up.
