I cannot backup my phone because it says I need more storage / I have a OneDrive with over a TB of storage and it is not full. I keep NO pictures on my phone, nor any documents - just contacts. The backup should be pretty small - why can't I backup?

You cannot back up to One Drive.
You back up to either iCloud or a computer.....Mac or PC. If you see a message about not enough space, you need to buy more space on iCloud.
