Apple Mail suddenly will no longer stay open on my iMac

i have worked with two Apple techs, one a senior tech, for hours, each one going over all the normal steps to fix this problem, including reinstalling the OS, but no matter what nothing helps. Posting here to see if anyone. has this problem & possibly found a solution.

iMac 27″, macOS 12.7

thank you to BD Aqua, for your helpful suggestion. i actually got a good suggestion from a Sonic support person, which was to go back & retry a very basic thing of removing each mail account, one at a time, then reinstall them, Amazing to waste so much time when it was an easy fix, but now i have to restore lost files as my iMac wouldn’t follow my choice to save my files, but i’m pretty sure i can do that. thank you & blessings for this great community, elle

Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?
