CATERR = catastrophic error condition, asserted by the processor

<CORE 1 is the one that panicked.>

Kernel Panics are predominately caused by hardware faults or faulty third-party kernel extensions.

Learn what to do if your computer restarts or shuts down unexpectedly, or you get a message that your computer restarted or shut down because of a problem.

If your Mac restarted because of a problem - Apple Support

User Diagnostics to test your Mac

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

Can you run the user Diagnostic...not as definitive as Apple's own AST2 (Apple Service Toolkit) back bench diagnostic, but may kick out an error code.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

Make an appointment for a "hardware issue"

Jun 19, 2024 10:53 AM in response to leroydouglas

to re-emphasize what leroydouglas stated, CAT ERROR can not be caused by minor software issues. if this is frequent, your intel Mac needs service. you should run the User diagnostics. they catch GROSS problems. "no fault detected during testing" is NOT the same as "all is well"

HOWEVER -- the Genius Bar techs are NOT trained to read panic reports. They will take action ONLY if your Mac fails diagnostics.

You MAY need to contact Apple support and ask them to have a specialist contact you to read and interpret your panic reports. If they conclude some Hardware needs to be fixed, they can DIRECT a service center to replace the failing component, likely the mainboard.

Whenever you submit your Mac for service, the document you sign affirms that you have all the Backup copies of you files you EVER wanted, and frees Apple of any responsibility to save or restore your files.

YOU MUST HAVE COPIES OF YOUR FILES BEFORE SENDING YOUR MAC FOR SERVICE, or they will likely be lost..

I have run diagnostics, and I keep getting no errors found. I also took it to a Genius bar, whose preliminary diagnostics state no errors. They want me to leave the laptop with them for a non-specified time to see if they can find a problem. I go to school and cannot afford to leave the computer without an estimate of repair time. How do I do this? "You MAY need to contact Apple support and ask them to have a specialist contact you to read and interpret your panic reports. If they conclude some Hardware needs to be fixed, they can DIRECT a service center to replace the failing component, likely the mainboard." I just got a different panic code. It happens quite a lot right now.
