New Airpods Won't Skip Songs

I just got new Airpods for my birthday and cannot get them to skip songs using the double tap. When I go into the Airpod settings on my phone/laptop, I only have the option to change the settings for answering/declining calls, but not for skipping songs. How do I enable the skipping tracks?
