I could be mistaken, but if you see "5G E" or "E" in the status area, that may refer to the available cellular network, and have nothing to do with Wi-FI service (or the absence thereof).

If you don't see a Wi-Fi icon indicating that you are connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi, another option may be to connect via cellular data.
