As it happens, this past weekend, I borrowed one of these Answin male HDMI to female Mini Display Port adaptor cables and it works perfectly, the 27" Apple Cinema Display (A1316) firing up immediately upon hot-plugging it in to the 16" M3 Max MacBook Pro (A2991) thus giving back an otherwise blocked Thunderbolt 4/USB-C port, a port better used for external disks or other peripherals.
As mentioned in my earlier post, the page for that adaptor cable says that it works with quite a nr of other devices and computers, so not just Macs ...
There is this male HDMI to female Mini Display Port adaptor cable which (if the ad for it is to be believed) connects the 27" Apple LED Cinema Display (A1316) to computers (and other devices) other than Mac.
I am tossing up whether to purchase this for my Mac to free up one of the USB-C ports (via a USB-C to Mini Display Port adaptor) that is dedicated to connecting my 27" Apple LED Cinema Display (A1316). It seems ridiculous to not use the provided HDMI port for video out.
Not possible, unfortunately. Macs only.
