Downloads "Pile" Icons in Top-Right Corner of Screen

The earlier solution offered for this problem is incorrect. No need to mess with .plist or create a 'Downloads' folder that you don't want. After all, we should be able to use our Macs the way WE want. The correction and easy solution for this problem is: View/Sort By > turn on "Snap to Grid".

Problem solved.

Not liking the toolbar icon changes in Monterey, or is there some way to change them. Switching from list view to icon view (or column or gallery) use to take me just one click. Now, I have to click, select from a dropdown and then click again. If there is a way to change this I would certainly like to know. OK -- editing this. ... I just realized the problem. The folders have been opening smaller than I'm use to and the four-icon view group was condensing to a dropdown menu.... (d'oh)... After decades of working with Mac, such a simple oversight (on my part).

MACBOOK PRO DESKTOP ITEMS SNAP BACK TO ORIGINAL POSITION -- ANNOYING! When I move folders, etc, on my M1 MacBook Pro, the folder snaps back to its original position. Very annoying. I found an old thread where George said -- open up Finder -- under VIEW click on SHOW VIEW OPTIONS -- and change the option from SNAP TO GRID to NONE. Desktop folders snap back in place - Apple Community I don't see this option on my MacBook Pro M1 - SNAP TO GRID to NONE. So how do I stop these folder from snapping back now? Thanks!

Or View > Clean Up, but use whatever works for you.

I don't know what earlier solution you're referring to.

Yes. And yet, after 18 years, the problem persists.

That's some superbug.

Oddly, I never had the problem until I upgraded to Sonoma 14.5.

Now I've got nothing BUT problems with the OS.

Oh, woe is progress!
