Looking for an easy to use NAS for photo storage at home

I have a Synology DS220+ and use Synology Photos with our iPhones to store photos and videos, which has worked well for my family and me. We also use Amazon and Apple Photos for photo storage. My issue is that I have used most of the Family shared 200GB iCloud, and most of this is photos. Because we have Prime, we get free photo storage. Using the DS220+, I have used over 900GB, but I am unsure how much of this is photos and video. So I have a few questions.

  1. Should I upgrade to a 4-bay NAS
  2. Should I stick with my 2-bay NAS but get bigger HDDs or SSDs
  3. Should I stay with Sonology
  4. Can I sync my NAS and cloud services using Multicloud?

to elaborate a bit on Matti's comment about "network shares" - the local copy of your Photos Library needs to be stored locally on your Mac, either on the internal disk or on an external drive with a wired connection. And it cannot be stored in a synced folder of any cloud service, not even on Apple's own iCloud Drive.

The only supported way to save storage and to keep the local copy a Photos Library small is iCloud Photos with "Optimize Mac Storage" enabled.
