Video Playback Issues Across Various Apps

For some unexpected reason, videos cannot be played in the majority of apps. They load, but they are not played. I can seek forward and backward, but they won't play.

In some specific apps (I can name Facebook and Instagram) videos in stories and reels are played, but the audio is not played, they are completely muted even after enabling the sound within the app, and increasing the volume to the max.

Audio apps, like Spotify, can play music normally.

I am unsure about the steps to reproduce the issue, it happens randomly, but I have a feeling it has to do with having "Screen Time" and "Content and Privacy Restrictions" enabled. Simply, everything works normally for a few days, then out of nowhere, the issue stars happening. Restarting the iPhone "fixes" it temporarily.

Here's a video from April 22th 2024, where I'm playing audio (music) from Spotify, but when I try to play a video on Twitter or YouTube, it isn't played.

Here's another video from June 24th 2024, where I try to play videos from Twitter, then play a video on Instagram that stays muted even after increasing the volume, and then I play a song in Spotify which plays normally.

I'm using the latest stable iOS (17.5.1) at the time of reporting this issue.

I also already tried doing a factory reset for the iPhone, which did not work.

Have you faced a similar issue? Do you know what fixes it?

Since you suspect “Screen Time” and “Content and Privacy Restrictions” might be involved, start by checking these settings:

• Screen Time Settings:

1. Go to Settings > Screen Time.

2. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.

3. Ensure that “Content & Privacy Restrictions” is disabled or check specific settings under Allowed Apps and Content Restrictions to see if any limitations are placed on video or audio content.

• App-Specific Restrictions:

1. Under Content Restrictions, make sure there are no restrictions on media content (e.g., movies, TV shows, or music).

2. Check Sound Settings

Ensure that the sound settings are correctly configured:

• Ringer and Alerts:

1. Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics.

2. Adjust the Ringer and Alerts slider to ensure the volume is up.

• App-Specific Volume:

• Some apps have their own volume settings. When playing a video in an app, use the physical volume buttons to increase the volume.
