My Superdrive works on my older computer (Catalina 10.15.7) mid-2012...but on the new computer with Sonoma 14.4.1 the drive will not take the CD in. Seems like the drive doesn't have power. Plugging the unit in external accessory with USB ports. Everything else works o.k. with this extension. any ideas?

Older versions of the USB DVD reader have required 900 milliAmps, whcih may only be completely available through DIRECT connection. Any 'smart' dock may take some of the power for itself, leaving not enough for this power-hungry device.

One cause is a USB-C to USB-A adapter that does not provide sufficient power.
The Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter does provide sufficient power.
Third-party adapters may or may not.
