What's the most I can block Safari?

I would like to give my daughter an iPhone that she can use for text messaging, phone calls, FaceTime calls, and maps. I don't want her to use it for browsing the web.

It looks like it isn't possible to uninstall Safari. The most I can do is remove it from the home screen (though it will still be available in the app index).

What steps can I take to limit Safari's ability to access to the greatest extent possible?

Additional info: the phone will have most unnecessary apps removed. It will not provide access to the App Store.

This is an iPhone 8 running iOS 17.5.1, which is the latest version available for the device.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The iPhone 8 cannot run iOS 17.5.1.

You can not allow Safari by using Screen Time settings. The location is Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps > Safari, and switch this off. There are also many other apps you can switch off here.

You can also prevent any other apps from being installed by going to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > Installing Apps, and switch this off.

You will want to set a Screen Time Passcode on the device that only you know, so those changes cannot be reversed. Much more can be done to restrict what can be done with the iPhone by reviewing this:

No Problem.

If you have an iPhone as well, you can set up Family Sharing and control those restrictions from your phone. There are also additional features that you may want to implement in the future such as "Ask to Buy" where you child may want to download an app or make a purchase, but will need you to confirm the request first. Of course you can also easily keep track of their location as well.
