MacBook Air 2019 13 inch retina

Hi there, was originally quoted €600-800 to repair my laptop which had a bit of water damage, the laptop worked perfectly fine bar the keyboard and trackpad. I was told they would be ordering these parts to fix said problem. But now I’m being quoted for a new battery which I didn’t seem to have any issues with so I don’t understand how that’s broke, a new top case when I was told I wouldn’t need one and a new Touch ID but mine works fine I was able to unlock my laptop after the accident, the new quote is €1300. Does anyone know if this is necessary? I was told to that the top case and the keyboard parts come separately after the 2018 model

If the Logic Board is replaced, then you also need to have the TouchID replaced since the TouchID is paired to the Logic Board (the pairing of the TouchID can only occur one time).

The Battery is glued to the underside of the Top Case Assembly (beneath the Trackpad & Palmrest) and is considered part of the Top Case Assembly. If the Top Case/Keyboard Assembly is/was being replaced, then the Battery is automatically included so you should not be paying extra for the Battery.....assuming an official Apple repair. The Trackpad used to be included with the Top Case Assembly, but is now considered a separate part.

Are you dealing with Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider? Or are you using a repair shop unaffiliated with Apple? It sounds like an unofficial repair and they do not know what they are doing. If this is Apple or an AASP for an official Apple repair, then something doesn't seem right.....maybe they are not properly conveying the situation? Ask them to explain it more clearly.

I completely agree with @BobTheFisherman. Personally I would not spend any money on repairing any 2016-2020 Apple Intel Mac for a variety of reasons. The money spent on repairs is better put toward a new laptop.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I am going through an official Apple support store here in Ireland there isn’t many who deal with Apple repairs and i was too afraid to take it to any other type of repair shop in case of a hack job being done but you have clearly explained more then they have as a not much was explained about the repair just quoted an original price so you can imagine my shock when it was the same price my dad would’ve paid for the laptop in the first place.

When I seen the breakdown of the price I knew something was wrong as half of the items listed were completely fine but as you said some of things need to be automatically replaced when installing the logic board or top case none of this was said to me, just quoted a price, I had asked a couple questions in the chat bar on my case but have received no replies from the company itself. Do feel like they shouldn’t be included in the price as there was no damage done but hey people have to make money.

While I don’t want to spend they money repairing an older laptop I’m someone of sentimental value, this laptop completed my dream I had and was probably the most expensive gift I’ve ever received I’m heart broken to lose it. However I do agree that the money could be used on a better and improved year.

any suggestions on MacBook airs similar to the 2019 version? I had a look around after I left my laptop in and some seem to be very bulky. The main feature about mine that I loved is how slim and light it was?
