Iphone X and Apple Watch Pairing

Is it possible to pair an iPhone X (IOS 16.7.8) with a series 8 Apple Watch? I keep getting an error that the iPhone operating system is out of date however, it is current. Everything I've found online said this pairing should be possible with IOS 16, but it keeps failing. Is there any watch that can pair with an iPhone X?

Which watchOS is installed on the Apple Watch 8? A brand new Apple Watch will have the latest watchOS preinstalled.

In case it already has watchOS 10 installed, your iPhone needs to be able to install iOS 17, which only an iPhone XS or newer model can.
