ordering macbook on apple website saying I need a check in

I’m fairly newer to being an Apple user and I’m starting school in the fall and needed a new laptop. So I decided to order the M3 13” online and pick it up in person, which is how I’ve bought my iPhone 15 without any complications. However when I went to do that instead of it saying available for ‘pick up’ it said ‘check in required’? Is this something to do with the fact I’m ordering through the education website? Or is something wrong?

Nah. It's just asking you to present yourself at the store where you intend to pick up your new Mac when they tell you it's ready to be picked up. Ideally, have the email Apple sends you containing a barcode. They will scan it to "check you in".

Or, you can use your Apple ID. Bring some kind of identification with you. You can also designate someone else to pick it up.

It has nothing to do with the Education Store.
