When using the new Final Cut Camera app, recording to an external drive doesn’t actually save the video anywhere and says “no media,” how do I fix this?

When using the new Final Cut Camera app, recording to an external drive doesn’t work. When pressing record the timecode stays at 0 and when I stop recording nothing is saved and it says “no media.” The drive works perfectly fine for recording on the native app and third party apps as well. It is exFAT, and I already tried erasing it. I have tried other drives as well and had the same issue.

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

You will need to change the partition map from "Master Boot Record" to "GUID Partition Map" before you can format the drive as APFS.

In Disk Utility, do View->Show All Devices, then select the drive itself (not the volume inside it) and click Erase.
