How do I solve "does not support DP Alt mode" when connecting to ASUS MB14A screen?

I can't connect my MacBook Air to the ASUSMB14A screen using a cable with USB-c on both ends.

I am getting the message: ""does not support DP Alt mode".

What do I need to do to make the connection. See picture to see my MacBook specifications.

Is this the monitor?

Asus claims that it accepts

  • USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode) input
  • DisplayLink input – if you connect it to a USB-A port on a computer with DisplayLink driver software installed

The resolution is 1920x1080.

Your Mac has native USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode) output. No need for the DisplayLink workaround.

So I would think that any USB-C to USB-C cable that is rated to be able to carry DisplayPort video would suffice to connect this monitor to your MacBook Air. Have you checked that this cable supports say, 4K @ 60 Hz (overkill in this case, but would be an indication that it should work)? And that it's not just a charging cable, or a cable whose maximum data transfer speed is only suitable for USB 2 and/or USB 3 data?
