Microsoft Outlook will no longer work with Apple Mail

I have received an eMail from Microsoft informing me that as of September 16, 2024, I will no longer be able to access Outlook through Mail. I am required to update my Outlook access through Apple Mail, how do we do that? Or, is Apple going to update Mail because of this?

Remove Outlook account in Mac Mail then add a new 'Microsoft Exchange' account using the Outlook email and password login. Worked for me. If only that had been explained by Microsoft — they only gave me information relevant to iOS.

I received the warning like everyone. The 16th of Sep came and went and I have had no issues with my hotmail. I didn't even have to set it up with Microsoft Exchange. Someone on this thread posted that Apple have already made the required changes to ensure there is a seamless integration after the 16th. My operating system is Sonoma 14.6.1 - I think this is key. Make sure you have the latest operating system.

Ignore my message - my hotmail is no longer synching with my apple mail. Such a nuisance. I don't like Exchange servers as any deletion in one inbox (iPhone or mac) means deletion across all devices. So now I have to create a new inbox to copy all my messages to an offline folder on my mac. Nuisance, nuisance, nuisance!

Same here, it’s exhausting isn’t it. Long story short, I've been reliably informed that Mac OS users should choose the Microsoft Exchange option when setting up their Outlook account in Apple Mail. Have a read thread of this thread.

Apple Mail for Mac: The Microsoft support article "Modern Authentication Methods" instructs Apple Mail users to delete the Outlook account and reinstall it. I did that several months ago thinking all would be well. On Oct 1 new messages failed to load and the Outlook account could not be reinstalled (password not recognized). Using the Microsoft Exchange option under Internet Accounts allowed the account to be reinstalled. No mention of this was made in the Microsoft article.

My MacBook is quite old and cannot install any OS Updates. It runs on Mojave 10.14.6. Mail just stopped syncing in September. I tried deleting and then adding my Outlook account as per the instructions you all shared so helpfully here. But I keep getting the error message "Unable to verify account name or password" even though I am sure the username and password is correct. I would be very grateful for suggestions!

For context: all is working fine on the Mail app on my iPhone with iOS 17.6.1

I just restored my MacBook Pro with MacOs Ventura 13.7 and did add my Outlook Account as "Exchange" Account.

It did look good as all the Mails loaded correctly and there seemed to be no issues but as I tried to send a new Mail, it failed to do so, as there was only the iCloud Mail as Outgoing Mail-Server configured. After several searches and retries it seemed to just not work anymore.

The solution in the end was to delete the Outlook mail account and added it again and during this process also deactivated the synchronization of the iCloud Mail since I don't need it.

Afterwards sending mails was possible again.

Great idea but it did not work. "Cannot send message, The sender address was rejected by the server smtp-mail.outlook.com. The server response was: STARTTLS is required to send mail."

Identical response to previous when I had manually entered the credentials. (obviously without STARTTLS as it is not an option)

Presumably this is a turf war between microsoft and apple with us peasant punters, who made them wealthy, as the fall guys?
