That depends on what you want to do with the archive. Taking screenshots can be useful if you only have a few messages, and you aren't going to need to copy the text for any reason.

If, however, you have long threads (or a lot of them) and may want to print things out, I'd suggest an application such as iMazing or TouchCopy. Both will allow you to archive messages to your computer as either PDF or text files.

Please note that if you are doing this because yu want to use the messages in a legal proceeding, you should first discuss this with your attorney. Failure to handle things in the way the court deems appropriate could lead to issues.
