Do I need Apple TV to mirror MacBook Air screen?

I recently purchased a MacBook Air and I love it! We've always been Windows people so please excuse my ignorance. I wanted to mirror screen to my TV but we don't have a smart TV and a fire stick. Do I need Apple TV as well to accomplish this? Thanks in advance.

Yes that would be the most simple method. In addition to mirroring the MBA you will also open a whole new viewing experience for watching TV.

As long as your TV supports HDMI then you are set, if it does not have an HDMI port on it then there is no way to connect the Apple TV device.

I think the following link will help you out:

I believe you are referring to Apple TV + which is Apple's streaming service (similar to Netflix, HBO Max, Peacock etc..) and no you do not need to have an Apple TV + subscription unless you want to watch Apple TV + content. If you are unsure of what I am referring to please visit:

to get an idea of some of their content. You can also visit a retailer such as an Apple Store, Best Buy, etc to get an explanation.

When you are new to the Apple TV eco system it can be a little confusing as Apple has multible products in the TV arena. You can find them at www.apple.com and then click on the TV & Home tab on the top of the web page.

Your local retailer (Apple Store, Best Buy, etc..) can help explain the various products to you.
