Backup iPad Photos to USB Drive

Gentlefolk,

I have a capacity crunch on my iPad and want to copy files onto a USB drive. My Macbook Pro (2011 High Sierra 10.13.6) doesn’t display the iPad as a disk, so I can’t drag copy to an ext drive that IS visible using the MacBook.

My Windows 10 PC DOES recognize the iPad, but the drag/drop copy process dies after a while with an error saying the USB drive can’t be accessed.

There are around 217 folders of photos with I think about 7,000 images, or thereabouts.

I want to copy the images locally before I trust an iCloud optimization dump.

Near as I can tell, the macOS I have won’t support my iPad as a virtual disk, but my Windows drag copy crashes.

Suggestions? Do I have to copy each folder individually to my ext disk?

Thank you!

It has been a while since I had a Mac running High Sierra, but I think the utility named Image Capture existed that long ago. Image Capture should allow you to copy all or selected photos and videos from your iPad to any storage device attached to your Mac. However, Image Capture won't see the album/folder structure on the iPad, just the base items.
