iMac is very slow. Capacity 999.86 GB, free 305.81 GB. Any suggestions to fix it?

Unless you up-ordered the iMac with Apple's Fusion drive or solid-state drive options, the base mechanical hard drive is the most common cause of "slow" in 2012-2019 21.5-inch iMac.
