macbook air stuck in recovery mode after reset

I am getting ready to package my MacBook Air to turn in. I did the factory reset and now it’s only starting up in recovery mode. I erased the MacBook on recovery mode, restarted, and it’s still in recovery mode. Is the laptop completely wiped and ready to turn in? Or are there additional steps I need to take?

Hi booboobear23,

How did you factory reset your Mac? There's a couple of ways to do it:

If you used Erase All Content and Settings, your Mac will briefly start up in Recovery to activate. Just connect it to Ethernet or Wi-Fi and let the activation process complete. If you're asked for your Apple ID, provide it when prompted - this will release Activation Lock.
If you used Recovery Assistant or Disk Utility (Intel or Apple Silicon) in macOS Recovery to erase your Mac, you'll need to reinstall macOS before selling or giving away your Mac.
