EDIT: I missed the last post, which clarifies my doubt below; I leave the rest of my post, though, in case it is useful.

The part about Screenshots totally applies to your case

You write Image Capture... is that exactly what you meant, or were you talking about Screenshots?

If it is indeed Image Capture: are you using it to scan images from a scanner?

AFAICT, Image Capture never had annotations, but if you are scanning, a better alternative is to use Preview directly. It offers the same functionality for scanning as does Image Capture, and then all the annotations are available.

If you meant Screenshots (e.g. capture the screen with Command-Shift-3, or -4, or -5): press Command-Shift-5, then from the Options popup activate "Show Floating Thumbnails". When you capture, a thumbnail appears at the bottom right. Click to edit and annotate the screenshot.

Alternatively (my own preferred workflow): from the same Options popup, select Preview.

This way, your captured image opens directly in Preview (no need to save first).

Can U Take and Annotate screenshots on Mac without opening it with Preview?
As it is now U need to
1) take the screenshot
2) save it
3) look it up
4) open in Preview
5) annotate
That is quite annoying each time

You can have Command-Shift-5 automatically open screenshots in Preview, via the Command-Shift-5 Options.

This is how I have all my Macs configured.

when finished annotating, I Command-A to select all, then Command-C to copy the annotated image, and paste it into a document. The exception is this forum, where I need to save it as a file, and then use the insert image controls in the edit window.
