How to fix the issue of Apple Watch Series 8 asking for the wrong Apple ID during setup?

Trying to setup new Apple Watch series 8. When I get to the sign in step it asks for an Apple ID that isn’t mine. I had an iPhone 5s given to me by my father that I don’t think we reset that may have caused the mixing up of our apple ids however I currently have an iPhone 8. And my own Apple ID so can’t see why it wants my dads Apple ID as wouldn’t this get his messages to appear on the watch not mine? Can’t get around putting in the password by doing express or non express setup. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

If the Apple Watch has been used with a different Apple ID, you will have to disable the Activation Lock for the shown Apple ID first, before you can set it up with your Appel ID.

If you can not do that, but you have proof of ownership, contact the official Apple Support and ask them for help, as described in this article:

Make sure to have your iPhone set up with your Apple ID, then try to pair the watch again.

You can do that by logging out of the Apple ID on the iPhone in Settings/Your Name/Apple ID, scroll down to -> log out, or by setting the iPhone back to factory settings, without using the latest backup.

Thank you for the reply. The Apple Watch itself is brand new and hasn’t been setup ever before. I think the issue comes in with my previous Apple Watch being setup on my old phone with two apple ids connected to the phone. But I’m not sure why it requires my fathers Apple ID when I have never logged into it, the old Apple Watch was connected to my apple id (I assume) and I am trying to set it up through the watch app as a new watch.
