Sky stream says it doesn't recognise my tv as 4k, I know it's old but it worked with a BT youview box a couple of years ago.
I can get an Apple 4k tv through EE but don't want to go through all the hassle of it won't output 4k to my TV.

That seems to be a H-series 4K TV from 2014. This model would have HDMI 1.4 ports, which does not support commercial 4K sources (that would require an HDMI 2.0 port with HDCP 2.2 support). Instead it supports resolutions up to 1080p/1080i from external HDMI devices.

Unfortunately, it seems that this TV model supports 4K internally, but not from HDMI devices.
That being said, the Apple TV box wouldn’t be wasted nor a hassle with this TV or your next TV. It will adapt to the current screen and connection.
