Microsoft email: "Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access."

Do not want to lose ability of iMAC calendar and other features but apparently will do if we can't use the Apple mail. Apparently we wont be able to as it provides a less secure connection to Microsoft mail than is needed. Is Apple doing anything about this, or will we be forced to change mail/calendar platforms (which would be a disaster as I have multiple Apple products connected with these services).

Microsoft Support – Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps

When Google tightened up their security, they provided a way to reconnect old mail clients using an app password. I didn't see any mention of an app password option on the Microsoft site. Microsoft says:

"If you use Apple Mail:

Apple Mail supports Modern Authentication by default when you setup the account as Outlook.com. If you use Apple Mail and you are seeing password prompts or connection errors, this is most likely happening because your account got configured as basic authentication. To mitigate the issue, remove the account and add it back as Outlook.com"

The directions are likely for an iPhone, as they refer to Settings > Mail – and to an Outlook.com option that doesn't exist in Settings > Internet Accounts on a Mac, at least not in Ventura.

I'm running Sonoma 14.6.

Are you saying I should see an Outlook.com option when I 'Add Account...', because I don't.

Just see Microsoft Exchange (and other non-Microsoft options).

The following link talks about which service provider to use.

It states that Outlook.com is only available for IOS.

That is what I see on both my iPhone and iPad, but not on my iMac.

Choose the correct email service provider when you add an account to Mail

Another concern I have is that those instructions tell you to choose a provider based on your email extension,

e.g., onmicrosoft.com, outlook.com, live.com, etc.

I have an '@msn.com' email address. Wondering why this case is never mentioned.
