External Hard Drive Not Working

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro Intel i5 and a Toshiba external hard drive from a few years ago. Unfortunately, for the past few weeks when I connect my external hard drive after about a minute and a half it disconnects by itself for no reason, and in the meantime I can't do any operation on the drive because everything freezes and then disconnects. I have already tried using First Aid but since after not even a minute it disconnects, First Aid itself cannot figure out the problem. I specify that I have already changed the cable and the USB ports are clean and have no problems. How can I solve this situation?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.5

Sounds to me like the external drive has failed or is failing.

The resolve would be to replace the drive.

All new drives should be erased/formatted/initialized as new: GUID / APFS
