Can I use my iMac M1 without a screen?

I have an iMac M1 and am experiencing this issue:

My iMac M1 is not yet 2 years old, but it already has an issue with the LCD. As you can see, my LCD has a horizontal line problem. It seems that I am not the only one experiencing this issue, many others are facing the same problem, as discussed in this thread: Horizontal lines on my Mac Screen - Apple Community

I have asked several official Apple service centers about the cost of screen replacement, and it turns out that the cost is not cheap. So, I plan to use an external monitor instead of replacing the LCD because I am afraid that if I replace the LCD this problem might return in the future.

I plan to replace the damaged screen with a custom 3D print cover 😛 (wild idea), as I don't see the point in keeping a broken screen that is unpleasant to look at. If I use an external monitor and remove the built-in damaged LCD, can I still use my iMac?

Note: My iMac M1's warranty has expired.

Yes, with the second display connected do this in display system preferences.

Displays > click on the external display > Use as = Main Display then restart

I've just tested this on my M1 iMac and it works, I do have my iMac set under Mission Caontrol as Displays Have Separate Spaces [on] but this may not be required.

I don't advise messing with the iMac, just turn your iMac to face away from you as this will maintain the cooling which is required for good functioning.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have an old monitor that still uses HDMI for its connection. For now, I will use the old monitor and it seems I will buy an adapter as you suggested so that my iMac and old monitor can be connected. However, I also plan to buy a new monitor that supports type C display directly without needing an adapter. My question is, is there a difference in display quality when using HDMI and an adapter compared to connecting directly via type C?
