How can I diagnose/optimize 2015 MB Pro (SSD) that's recently gotten slow?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

Monterey v12.7.5 (latest OS version for my processor)

2.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

16GB 1600 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2GB

512GB SSD (236 GB currently available)

Apps I use daily, usually open concurrently:

Adobe Illustrator BETA v28...(latest)

Adobe Photoshop BETA v25... (latest)

Adobe Acrobat v24... latest

MS Excel (latest)

MS Word (latest)

Safari

Apple mail

Lately, I am experiencing diminishing performance, most noticeable while using MS and Adobe applications e.g. keystroke-to-display latency when editing in Word and Excel; same when manipulating graphics with mouse and tablet gestures in adobe. I do not experience latency when saving work, opening web browsers and using Finder. I can browse, copy, rename and move files, etc. without issue.

Physical RAM has not been redlined when this happens, and successfully managing burden on virtual memory is a simple matter. Historically, this has not been problematic.

Monterey 12.7.5 is the final OS for the i7s and it is not ideally suited for latest Illustrator and Photoshop versions, however, older versions are also running slow.

Any solutions?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.7

the specs of your MBP appear adequate for your usage. so rather than playing 20 questions, i'm thinking you should download and run the free version of EtreCheck so we can see if you have some software installed that is causing your issue. make sure you give "full disk access" to etrecheck. Learn how to use it by reading Using EtreCheck. if you need help interpreting the report, you can see how to post the report here by reading How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report. and it automatically obscures sensitive things (like serial numbers) so you don't have to worry about sharing the report here.

Etrecheck:

Consider downloading and running this little "discovery" utility, Etrecheck. It changes NOTHING. Etrecheck was developed by senior contributor here, and uses system calls to collect often-needed information.

it contains little tests for speeds of devices, CPU utilization, memory usage, energy usage and a digest of recent problems, in one easy to use package. it does not even need to be Installed. Because less can be learned when your Mac is running great, best time to run is when your problems are actually occurring, if possible.

if you follow the directions faithfully, its report (pre-laundered of all personally-identifiable information) can be "Shared" to the system ClipBoard, then Pasted into an ‘Additional Text’ window in a reply on the forums.
