I am an Apple TV+ subscriber. I access Apple TV+ through my Sony smart TV. Often, when there is a movie that is advertised on my Apple TV + user interface that I want to watch, I click on it and I get a message to rent or buy the movie in the Apple TV + app. Well...I'm IN the Apple TV+ app!!!! What is going on?

On Sony TVs, the Apple TV app is currently not supporting in-app transactions. That means that the buy or rent transaction will have to be done on a different supported device (e.g. iPhone*). Once the transaction is completed the content will be available in the Apple TV app on Sony TV as well, as the purchase is linked through the Apple ID account. The “How to Watch” blurb was supposed to convey that.

Is it Apple TV+ content? Or, a movie from a different studio? Only Apple TV+ content is part of your subscription. For other films/tv shows you'll need to purchase or rent.
If the content is included with your subscription, you may be signed out of the app. If it is indeed content you need to rent or buy to view try using Rent movies from the Apple TV app - Apple Support
that resource also indicates you have to sign into your appleID
The content is not part of the apple tv + subscription, however, it instructs that the way to purchase or rent is to go to the apple app to do so.

Yes, that is clear but the only option provided in order to actually rent or buy the movie is "through the apple app." So....if I'm in the apple app and have to purchase in the apple app, where do I go to do that?
